The George Michael Collection Auction presents over 150 works from the legendary recording artist’s private collection. The collection represents a unique dialogue between George Michael and his British contemporaries in the visual arts, with highlights including works by Michael Craig-Martin, Tracey Emin, Jake and Dinos Chapman and Matt Collishaw.
Taken as a whole, the collection explores how the artists working during this time united the conceptual and the visceral. They used imagery taken from daily, urban life, and treated their radical content with irony, pragmatism and wit. While their practices were dizzyingly diverse, they were broadly united by a democracy of materials and meaning.
Works by Michael Craig-Martin in this collection include the LCD animation ‘Commissioned Portrait Untitled (George)’ and several paintings.
